There is nothing more sacred—and more overlooked—than the breath.
It’s the first thing we do when we arrive Earth-side, and the last thing we do before we return Home. And yet, how often do we truly feel our breath? How often do we let it move us, guide us, hold us?
Breath Is Medicine
In my own journey, I discovered breathwork during a season of deep disconnection. My thoughts were loud, my body was tense, and I couldn’t find my way out. And then I breathed. Deeply. Intentionally. Repeatedly. And something began to shift.
The breath softened me.
Breathwork is more than just “deep breathing.” It’s a conscious practice of using breath to regulate, release, and realign. It’s a gateway to the present moment, to our emotions, to Spirit.
How It Works
From a physiological standpoint, breath regulates the nervous system. It shifts us from fight-or-flight into rest-and-digest. It slows the heart rate. It increases oxygen to the brain.
From a spiritual standpoint, breath is prana—life force energy. It clears stuck emotions, unlocks insight, and connects us to the sacred.
Practices I Love
- Box Breathing: Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4.
- 4-7-8 Breathing: Inhale for 4, hold for 7, exhale for 8.
- Conscious Connected Breath: A rhythmic, circular breath that opens the heart and clears the mind.
Sometimes I pair breathwork with somatic practices—movement, sound, stillness—to help release what’s been buried. It’s always intuitive, always safe.
A Metaphor for Breath
I often imagine the breath as a gentle wave. It rises to meet you, and it recedes to create space. It never demands. It simply flows. When we trust the wave, we let ourselves be carried by something greater than us.
Why You Should Try It
